The Windermere Marathon was one of the few live races to take place across the country in 2020, and we are eagerly planning our 2021 event. Runner safety and confidence remain our top priorities as we plan for this years race. Due to the continued challenges presented by the ongoing pandemic, race organizers have elected to continue to use USATF certified COVID course from last year again in 2021. Although we were hopeful for our original point to point course, the point to point course poses some greater safety and logistical challenges related to the pandemic (shuttle buses, gear transport, increased permits to pull, longer traffic closures across major arterials with wave starts, etc.). The Windermere Marathon course is flat, fast, and scenic! The course is certified and eligible for Boston Qualification.
AID STATIONS / NUTRITION:
Participants will cross aid stations roughly every 2-3 miles on the course with the exception of the 5k. The 5k does not have a water station on course. Aid Stations will be equipped with the following, 20oz bottled water, 12oz bottled sports drink, GU gels, and gummy bear chews. All products will be bottled and/or pre-packaged due to COVID-19. We understand that most participants will only take a few sips of the bottle and throw the rest. Unfortunately, this is still our best way to provide nutrition during a pandemic. We have had some requests for smaller bottles, but we will only have the larger bottles due to them being significantly less expensive than the smaller bottles and some runners like to carry the larger bottle with them or pour it over their heads. Please do not litter on course and dispose of your trash at the aid stations. Due to the increased use of bottles, we do have a team that sweeps the entire course for garbage post race, but please make their life easier and do not litter on the course.
Marathon - 10 aid stations (Roughly miles: 2.5, 5, 8, 11, 13.5, 16, 17.75, 20.75, 21.25, 24.25)
Half Marathon - 4 aid stations (Roughly miles: 2.5, 5, 8, 10.5)
5k - NO aid stations
